Following a two year stint as chair of the Operation Kindness International Coordinating Group (ICG), Harris Akampurira has stepped down with a great deal of respect and thanks from OK activists and comrades around the world.
Harris is a founding member of both Operation Kindness Uganda and Operation Kindness Internationally. He is currently leading efforts to build the Kampala Kindness Cooperative and also serves as a ward councillor in Kampala. A committed activist, he can be seen here peacefully protesting for the right to education in Uganda.
Following a meeting of the ICG in January 2018, we are pleased to announce the two new OK ICG Co-Chairs as Denise Alcantar (OK Mexico) and Nastrina Kashkai (OK Jordan).
Denise Alcantar is a founder member of Operation Kindness Mexico. She has played a lead role in developing community initiatives in Tecax, Yucatan, Mexico, where OK activists have organised into a ‘Colectiva Mujeres’, through which local women engage in a range of community mobilisations such as community garden projects, breakfast clubs for school children and yoga and meditation groups.
Nastrina Kashkai is a founder member of Operation Kindness Jordan. She organises and coordinates the OK Jordan Refugee Solidarity Group through which OK activists support people fleeing conflict in Iraq and Syria. She lives in Amman and works at Jordan University. She is a Peace Architect and Mindfulness Trainer with Peace Revolution.
